Our CEO participated, along with the presidents of the main Spanish hotel chains that are part of Inverotel, the association of Spanish investors in the Caribbean that she chairs, in the press conference to present the Dominican Republic as a partner and host country for the next edition of Fitur 2022 in Madrid. The event took place on October 19th at the Garden Tent of the Hotel Embajador in Santo Domingo, where they announced this important milestone for the Caribbean destination.
The event was led by the President of the country, Luis Abinader, and was also attended by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, and Eduardo López Puertas, COO of IFEMA, the Institutional Trade Fair Consortium of Madrid, among other authorities.
A private meeting ensued with President Luis Abinader and the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, at the Casas del XVI Hotel, where they met Carmen Riu, CEO of Riu Hotels; Gabriel Escarrer, Vice President of Meliá Hotels International; Miguel Fluxa, President of Grupo Iberostar; Abel Matutes Prats, President of Palladium; Carles Poy, CEO of Princess Hotels & Resorts; Manuel Vallet, Vice President of Catalonia Hotels & Resorts; Javier Luque, General Manager and Board Member of Fuerte Group Hotels; and our CEO Encarna Piñero l.
The 16 Spanish hotel chains grouped in Inverotel announced that they will launch a new investment plan in the Dominican Republic worth more than US$580 million through 2024, with the aim of increasing the quality of their offer and promoting social and environmental sustainability, measures that they consider necessary to improve the competitiveness of the sector in the country.
Encarna Piñero chaired the meeting as president of Inverotel, emphasizing that this investment strategy “is designed to increase the value contributed by tourists and complements the income expected from the plan to increase the volume of travelers that the authorities have set out to achieve”.
In addition, our CEO together with the rest of Inverotel's partners organized a meeting with the top management of Banco Popular Dominicano. This organization supports the tourism sector and business families with investments in the country, and actively collaborates in the study of the Dominican Republic's competitiveness.
Finally, Encarna Piñero, accompanied by Jesús Duran, Evelyn Kuori, Fernando Castillo, and Paqui Benítez, visited the Presidential Palace to present the Cayo Levantado Beach recovery project to Orlando Jorge Mera, Minister of the Environment, and his deputy ministers, and conveyed our commitment to sustainability and our alignment with the SDGs.
